If you could change the ending of any book, which one would it be?
If I could change the ending of any book, it would be Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. While the tragedy is one of the most celebrated stories in literature, I have often wondered what might have happened if the two young lovers had been given a second chance.
In my version, the message explaining Juliet’s plan would reach Romeo in time, preventing the heartbreaking misunderstanding that led to their deaths. Their survival would allow them to confront the long-standing feud between their families and become symbols of reconciliation rather than tragedy. Such an ending would preserve the story’s themes of love and courage while offering a powerful message about communication, forgiveness, and the possibility of change.
Although the original ending is unforgettable and serves an important literary purpose, a more hopeful conclusion would highlight the idea that even deeply rooted conflicts can be overcome when people choose understanding over division.
