What’s a word or phrase that annoys you?
One phrase that has always annoyed me is, “It is what it is.” While it’s often meant to encourage acceptance, it can sometimes feel dismissive, as though it shuts down meaningful conversation or discourages people from seeking solutions. In situations where growth, change, or accountability are possible, the phrase can sound like an excuse to avoid deeper thinking or action.
That said, language affects people differently. A phrase that irritates one person might comfort another. Often, our reactions depend on the context, tone, and experiences connected to the words we hear.
