If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?

If I had the power to change one law, I would advocate for comprehensive legislation that guarantees access to affordable, high-quality mental health care for all individuals. Mental health is as essential to overall well-being as physical health, yet in many societies, access to care remains limited by cost, stigma, and inadequate insurance coverage.

Too often, individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health conditions delay seeking help because treatment is financially out of reach or insufficiently covered by insurance policies. This not only deepens personal suffering but also affects families, workplaces, and communities. Untreated mental health conditions can contribute to lost productivity, strained relationships, homelessness, and even involvement with the criminal justice system.

A strengthened law ensuring true parity between mental and physical health services would require insurance providers to cover mental health treatment to the same extent as medical care. It would also increase funding for community-based services, crisis intervention programs, and preventative education initiatives. By making mental health care accessible and affordable, society would take a meaningful step toward reducing stigma and promoting overall public health.

Changing this law would not only improve individual lives but would also strengthen communities and economies. When people have access to the support they need, they are better equipped to contribute positively to society. Ensuring equitable mental health care is not merely a policy adjustment—it is an investment in human dignity and collective well-being.
