Are you holding a grudge? About?

Are You Holding a Grudge? About?

Grudges are heavy things to carry. They often linger long after the moment that caused them has passed, quietly shaping our mood, our relationships, and even our outlook on life. When I ask myself honestly if I am holding a grudge, I realize that it isn’t always about a single person or event—it can sometimes be about unmet expectations, words left unspoken, or disappointments I haven’t fully let go of.

A grudge is, at its core, a form of holding on. We replay the hurt in our minds, almost as if keeping it alive will somehow balance the scales of justice. But the truth is, grudges rarely punish the person who hurt us; they punish us by robbing us of peace.

If I am holding a grudge, it is often about times when I felt misunderstood or overlooked. Those moments remind me of my own vulnerability, and sometimes it feels safer to cling to the hurt than to risk forgiving. Yet, I know that forgiveness is not about excusing the past—it’s about freeing myself from its grip.

The question isn’t simply “Are you holding a grudge?” but also “What is it costing you?” For me, learning to let go means choosing peace over pride, healing over bitterness, and freedom over carrying unnecessary weight.
