Crispy Tofu with Garlic Ginger Sauce

- 400g firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- ½ cup vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 spring onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
- Steamed rice or noodles, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the tofu – Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes. Toss lightly in cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Crisp it up – Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry tofu cubes until golden and crispy on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- Make the sauce – In the same pan, add garlic and ginger. Sauté for 1 minute. Stir in soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey (or maple syrup), and vegetable broth. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Bring it together – Return the tofu to the pan and toss in the sauce. Drizzle with sesame oil.
- Serve – Garnish with spring onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
