What’s your go-to comfort food?

MY Go-To Comfort Food:

There’s something quietly powerful about comfort food. It’s never just about taste—it’s about timing, memory, and meaning. On days when the world feels uncertain or too loud, the right meal can feel like a hand on your shoulder. A reminder that you’re safe, you’re home, and everything will be okay.

For me, that meal is a humble bowl of chicken noodle soup.

The Simple Magic of a Bowl

Golden broth. Shredded chicken. Tender egg noodles. Soft carrots and celery that soak up flavor like little sponges of warmth. It’s not a fancy dish, but it doesn’t need to be. The first spoonful is always the same: gentle, soothing, honest. No surprises—just calm in edible form.

It’s a food that asks for nothing but your attention. One bite at a time.

More Than a Meal—A Memory

My connection to chicken noodle soup isn’t culinary—it’s emotional.

I first remember having it as a child, curled up on the couch with a scratchy blanket and a runny nose. Whether it came from a pot or a can didn’t matter. It was always delivered with the same intention: care. When I was sick, it showed up. When I was homesick, it showed up. When I didn’t know how to say I needed help—it still showed up.

Even now, it’s the food I crave when I don’t quite have the words for what I’m feeling.

When Comfort Calls

I reach for chicken noodle soup on rainy days, in between big decisions, and sometimes, just because I need to feel grounded. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t demand attention. But it does something more important—it brings me back to center.

Some people go to yoga. Others meditate. I simmer soup.

Want to Try It?

If you want to make a basic homemade version, here’s how:

  • In a large pot, sauté chopped onion, carrot, and celery in a little olive oil.
  • Add chicken broth, shredded cooked chicken (leftovers work perfectly), and a touch of thyme or parsley.
  • Simmer gently, add egg noodles, and cook until tender.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Serve hot.

It’s not about perfection—it’s about presence.

Final Thought

Comfort food is personal. It doesn’t have to be trendy or exotic. It just has to feel like you.

So now, I’ll turn the question to you:
What’s your go-to comfort food? And what story lives inside it?
